Our Story with video

HOW IT BEGAN

Azteca® Foods started in 1970 as the vision of Art Velasquez, the son of a migrant laborer, and 9 other Mexican-American businessmen who were members of the Azteca Lions Club in the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago.

How-Began

These entrepreneurs strived to promote the economic development and future leadership of their community while sharing traditional, high-quality Mexican foods with a larger audience.

Initially, Azteca tortillas and chips were sold to restaurants and small-wagon distributors in Mexican American neighborhoods in and around Chicago.

TODAY

Today

Today, Azteca has grown to become a multi-channel, national business privately owned by the Velazquez family. As a women owned and led, Certified Minority Supplier, Azteca operates in a 125,000 sq. feet start-of the-art manufacturing facility.

With Arthur and his wife Joanne active on Azteca’s Board of Directors, their kids and grandkids have prominent roles in Azteca’s future growth, along with the dedicated employees who work in Azteca’s family-based atmosphere.

Azteca and the Velasquez family remain committed to serving Chicago and its communities.
